The Legal Stuff

Before getting married there are a number of legal requirements that must be met.

To help with this I have complied some information for you and provided a number of links to make it easier.

One of the first things you will have to fill out and give to the priest or marriage celebrant will be the Notice of Intended Marriage form.

If you want to get really techincal then you may want to look up the Marriage Act of 1961 or the Marriage Regulations of 1963 to find the answers to those curly questions.

You can get these and other information from the Attorney General's Department website, which is where in fact I got these in the first place.

There is also some further information on other aspects of marriage at the Relationships - Getting Married webpage of the NSW Government.

For states other than NSW, you can try the Australia.gov.au website.
